Slum Area Land Development (Jaga Mission) Project - Land Rights to Slum Dwellers in Municipal Corporations of Odisha.
Project Description
:
Slum Area Land Development (Jaga Mission) Project was initiated by Tata Steel Foundation in partnership with Government of Odisha in November 2023. The main objective of the project is to empower urban poor living in 1222 slums covering 5 municipal corporations of Odisha with security tenure. Under this initiative Tata Steel Foundation is providing technical support for drone survey, slum mapping, capacity building of different stakeholders and documenting the project process into knowledge products. While the challenges of growing informal settlements are many folds in larger cities, the programme is helping to change perception around slum dwellers and informal workers through their participation and leadership in local governance. Moreover, under the project the slum dwellers are being given the tools necessary to empower themselves as advocates for their communities. This project also amplified the needs of marginalised groups, including urban poor, single women, transgender and those with disabilities.
