Adult education is not only to educate the individuals but also to strengthen the ability of the person. Basic literacy helps to access written and verbal information and information leads to skilling.
Sulekha Nayar, aged about 35, residence of Dungri village is famous for her helping hand as she is always ready to help others. She always holds the back whenever anyone seeks for her help but she feels limitation doing that as she was illiterate. Although she always tries to literate herself but due to social stigma, she was never been open to anyone with this regards.
In 2016 ACC TRUST started 11 no’s of Adult Education Centers at Dungri Gram Panchayat with the support from Mahashakti Foundation under its CSR Project namely “Sustainable Community Development Project”. For Adult Education programme around 350 women SHGs and Non SHGs members were mobilized & Sulekha is one of them.
She was very happy and passionate about her new life as she was in-search of such an opportunity. She enrolled herself in Ujjal Sikha Adult Education Center, Dungri and continues her classes for about six months. Where she learned to read and write of alphabets, numbers and basic calculation. Now she can read odia news paper and write her name in both Odia and English Language. After a period of time in adult education center, her willingness, motivation and attitude create a good impact and identity amongst all. Presently she can access all necessary information and also guide her children in their school homework.
Sulekha says, “Enrolling herself in Adult Education Center was a really good move.” She conveyed her gratitude and thanks to ACC Limited, Bargarh Cement Works and Mahashakti foundation as her dreams comes true.
